On September 27, the opening ceremony for the 2023 freshmen of School of Urban Railway Transportation took place at Zhihong Hall of the library. A total of 548 new students gathered to embark on a new chapter in their lives. The ceremony was attended by Wan Huilin, Party Secretary of School of Urban Railway Transportation, Liu Zhigang, Deputy Party Secretary and Dean, Sheng Xiaozhen, National Distinguished Professor, Sheng Zhiheng, Deputy Party Secretary, and Deputy Deans Luan Dongqing, Hu Dingyu, and Wang Lei. Also present at the event were leaders from the Party and Government Office, heads of various departments, representative mentors, class advisers, all counselors, and the 2023 freshmen. At the opening ceremony, Wan Huilin, Party Secretary of School of Urban Railway Transportation, presented The Constitution of the Communist Party of China and related red books to representatives of the study groups for the Party Constitution. She encouraged the students to illuminate the lamp of faith through reciting red books, shoulder the responsibilities of the times, strengthen their ideals and beliefs, never forget their original aspirations, remember their mission, and actively align themselves with the Party organization.

Representing the Department of Vehicle Engineering and as a recipient of the National Youth Science Fund, Teacher Zhang Linli shared her experiences and insights with the students from three perspectives. Representing the graduate students from the 2021 class of the Transportation Engineering program, student representative Zhang Yuan shared insights from his research experience with his peers. she emphasized two key points: elevating one's cognitive thinking and quickly transitioning into a research mindset by promptly identifying one's research direction. From the 2020 class of the Vehicle Engineering (Urban Rail Transit Vehicles) undergraduate program, student representative Zhang Junjie, drawing on his personal experiences, urged his classmates to remember their responsibilities, bravely shoulder their missions, become a rising force in skill enhancement, and contribute youthful energy to Shanghai's goal of becoming a socialist modern international metropolis. Representing the freshmen from the 2023 class of the Transportation Engineering program, student representative Meng Ziyu expressed anticipation for university life. He called on his fellow students to strive to become individuals who contribute to the country and society, dedicating their efforts to bolstering the nation's transportation prowess.
At this conference, the school played promotional and welcome videos for all new students, providing them with insights into the school's developmental journey and its rich array of student activities. The Youth Lecturer Group presented a program titled Original Aspiration, Relay, and Journey, narrating the 30-year growth of Shanghai's rail industry and showcasing the determination of the new generation of rail youth to forge ahead in the new era. They also expressed their ambitious vision of constructing a world-class rail network.
